Adoption Counseling
Adoption reverberates across a forest of family trees.
Dawn Friedman, This Woman’s Work
Adoption is always complicated; it is not an easy answer for anyone involved. I offer a safe, welcoming place to explore the complexities of adoption as they impact your life.
I support expectant parents with in-depth options counseling, drawing on my experience as a Talk Line Advocate for All Options. I also offer support and counseling around parenting, post-placement, and post-abortion.
Choosing to build a family through adoption creates the opportunity to deeply explore your beliefs about parenting, family and adoption itself. I look forward to accompanying adoptive parents through this process.
Adopted adults will benefit from having a place to speak freely about their emotions, their challenges, experiences and ideas about adoption and the ways it has informed their lives.
Siblings, grandparents, extended families and loved ones of people involved in adoption may have questions, concerns, and emotions about how adoption affects their lives. I welcome all members of the adoption constellation into my practice.
Much of my education and experience with adoption stems from being a white parent to a biracial child in a transracial, domestic, open adoption. I have participated in several workshops through Adoption Mosaic including classes on transracial parenting, a birth mother panel, and adult adoptee panels.
